Individuals with developmental disabilities often do not have the support system necessary to maintain an independent, productive and healthy life and they and their families look to state programs for support. A 15 percent reduction for fiscal year 2010 resulted in 400 adults with developmental disabilities losing vital services such as transportation to medical appointments and employment support services. Another 127 adults lost employment services, health care and independent living support placing them at risk and on the edge of crisis. 5% of STARS’ participants were impacted by these reductions; unable to access the supportive services they have relied upon for decades.
Please help us tell spread the word about how these cuts impact adults with developmental disabilities.
