    Development Associate and Volunteer Coordinator

Job summary

Often the first point of donor and stakeholder contact, the Development Associate and Volunteer Coordinator assists in the development and management of the relationships that contribute to meeting the agency’s revenue goals.  While responsible for the majority of back office operations, this position also holds the opportunity to work within all aspects of fund development, pr/marketing, working with volunteers, and donor relations.

Summary of essential job functions

Volunteer Recruitment, Management and Retention of community based and professional volunteers either individual or group

Matchmaker database management including input of all donations (cash and in-kind); maintain contact information; generate giving reports as needed on a monthly and annual basis

Prepare agency thank you letters for all donations, grants and other support

Assist with special event management of STARS’ annual event and all third party events.  Includes pre-planning logistics; silent auction management; budget preparation and management; event day coordination

Maintain department calendar including events, tours, and grant deadlines

Co-manage STARS’ public profile including website and all social media profiles

Gather, catalog and maintain all photos, client success stories, news articles

Represent agency at speaking engagements, facility tours

Board Fundraising Committee support

 

Responsible for achieving agency’s program goals while following agency’s mission, values, and philosophy

 

Commitment to achieving agency’s strategic goals while following agency’s mission, vision, values, and philosophy

 

Minimum requirements 

Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university

Minimum two years experience in development, pr/marketing, volunteer recruitment and management, administration, preferably in a non-profit agency

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Strong organizational skills to manage large volume and competing priorities

Proven customer service skills with a professional attitude and presentation

Must meet DES requirements for fingerprint clearance

 

Abilities required

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications, database management and web-based software

Demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written

Experience in public speaking

Flexibility to work some evenings and weekend days as needed

Volunteer Opportunities

Immediate Volunteer Opportunity at STARS

Villa de las Madrinas

STARS’ Villa de las Madrinas is our residential program for adults with disabilities. Volunteer opportunities include gardening; property cleaning and easy maintenance; client events and parties; and accompany clients on community outings.

Art Programs

Art Programs – volunteers work side by side with staff and clients on STARS’ Drawn Together and Photography Programs. Helping during STARS’ Music Therapy Program is also an option.

Work Center

Helping individuals with developmental disabilities find meaningful employment is part of STARS’ mission.  Each day 50 individuals with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, or traumatic brain injuries gain job skills/training in our Work Center located in Scottsdale.  At the Work Center, individuals complete mailing projects, light assembly, and packaging associated with contracts held by STARS with companies like Cox Communications. On the job experience in the Work Center helps individuals gain the skills needed to transition to the work place plus they gain a paycheck for work completed.

We are looking for volunteers who will assist the STARS Work Center Team.  NO EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED but the ability to lift up to 40lbs is ideal. Tasks include counting, sorting, labeling and boxing finished projects for shipment; light assembly work; and, general shop clean-up. 

Three volunteers are needed Monday-Friday, 9am to 4pm; volunteers can work a full day, morning shift (9-11:30) or afternoon (Noon to 4pm).
