OPENINGS FOR A MAN and A WOMAN IN THE STARS RESIDENTIAL SERVICES PROGRAM, THE VILLA DE LAS MADRINAS
The Villa de las Madrinas
is a private independent living program provided by STARS . Scottsdale Training
and Rehabilitation Services is a private, not-for-profit organization that has
been serving people with special needs in the East Valley since 1973.
--This is not a
state supported/funded residential program. Individuals pay privately for this
semi-independent living program. Residents range in age from their 20’s to
their 70’s. They have been diagnosed with a variety of challenges including
Developmental Disabilities, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Sensory challenges.
There are 13 people currently living in the setting, which has a capacity to
serve up to 18 people, if everyone has a roommate (some people choose to live
alone). There are 3 staff on duty during most of the programming time. The
Residential Manager lives on the premises, so there is a staff person available
overnight.
--Residents work
independently in the community, in work enclaves, and/or attend specialized day
programs. Those who attend STARS’ day services are transported by STARS .
--Each person has an
Individualized Support Plan developed following an initial 30-day
orientation/assessment period. Program focus is on personal and social
development, and activities of daily living training such as: room care skills,
self-help and consumer skills, cooking, cleaning, laundry, community access,
socialization, and leisure skills. The “Villa” offers semi-independent housing
in a family-like atmosphere.
--Individuals need to be
capable of performing basic self-care (toileting, bathing, and dressing) skills,
have a job or attend a program during the weekday hours, refrain from assaultive
or aggressive behaviors, and be motivated to live in a group setting with the
focus on independent living skills.
--The “Villa” is located near Hayden and McDowell Roads in Scottsdale, and is adjacent to a city park. Each resident either shares a room with a bath
with one other person, or has a room and bath to her/himself. There are shared recreation/dining/kitchen and laundry facilities.
Scheduled community recreation/leisure outings are an integral part of the program.
We currently have an opening for a man in a shared room, and for a woman in a shared room. The cost for the shared room is $1,100.00 per month. This rate pays for room, board (three meals per day), utilities, and staffing.
If you are interested or know of someone in need of this type of service, and you would like to know more about this program, and/or would like a tour, please contact Mike Lins, Program Director, at STARS at (480) 994-5704.
