STARS serves individuals primarily from the East Valley but also elsewhere in the Valley with recipients coming from Scottsdale, Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Cave Creek, Fountain Hills, the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community, Queen Creek, and the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation.
Those receiving services are all over 22 years of age with 64% over age 40. One of issues that STARS is struggling with is not only the aging of its population and their families but the increased behavioral health issues presented.
Families of the individuals served at STARS are real heroes! The rewards of having a disabled family member are great as are the challenges. These parents have remained committed to their child’s optimal development and have provided unwavering support, emotionally and financially. These families could never receive the degree of recognition they deserve.
