Brett has been with STARS for 5.5 years and is now a lead driver, an invaluable part of the transportation team. He handles a North Scottsdale route, inspects and maintains STARS vehicles and ensures regular servicing. Known as the “go-to” guy, Brett supports Justin and Cesar with various facility tasks, making him a valuable member of the team.
Get to Know Brett
When asked who he’s closest with, Brett smiles, mentioning participants like Sonja. Although Sonja is mostly non-verbal, Brett treasures her warm smile. “When she gives me that smile, it makes my day,” he says. Brett always greets her with a cheerful, “Hey Sonja Girl, how are you?” and aims to keep everyone upbeat on his route.
Years of Building Bonds
Over the years, Brett has formed strong bonds with many participants. Seeing familiar faces daily and knowing the little routines of each participant keeps him motivated and engaged. In addition, he has a special connection with his cousin, Jodi P., who he gets to see weekly and has been a close friend since childhood.
A Job with Heart and Purpose
When asked what has kept him at STARS, Brett explains, “It’s a good job, and it just comes naturally now. I know the participants, the routines; it feels like a second home.” For Brett, this role is about more than just driving—it’s about connecting with people and making a difference in their daily lives.
The Road to Safety
Brett is highly trained to keep everyone safe on his routes. He holds necessary licenses and insurance, and has training in CPR, Article Nine, crisis prevention and loading wheelchair-bound passengers safely. Every morning, he checks the van’s tires, fluids, cleanliness, and safety equipment to ensure each route begins with everything in working order.
Beyond Just a Job
For Brett, being a STARS driver is more than transporting people from point A to B. It’s about forming relationships, maintaining a high standard of care, and ensuring everyone gets to their destination safely and happily. Brett’s dedication and warmth have made him a true asset to the STARS team.
