Greetings STARS friends and supporters,
Like so many business leaders have done during the past 12 weeks, I’ve been providing updates about our response to the Coronavirus. By now, you know that our plans to restart programs will include frequent handwashing, routine disinfecting of high-touch surfaces, and appropriate social distancing.
I’m proud of the collaborative efforts of the STARS Covid-19 Response Team in making plans for the phased restart of programs on June 8. They’ve skillfully navigated the twists and turns of the obstacle course of guidance provided by authorities such as the CDC, WHO, ADHS, DDD, WH and others advising on how to deal with the unknowns of the virus. The plan of our CRT (we like using acronyms!) is to take small, simple steps to safeguard the health and well-being of our employees and participants as they return to STARS. It’s energizing to be in the company of such assiduous individuals.
What has been highly significant to me during this protracted period of uncertainty are the actions of the STARS Board of Directors. Led by Board Chair Joe Iturri, this purposeful group of selfless volunteers have thoughtfully challenged and tirelessly supported me throughout the crisis. You can learn more about this dynamic group here.
Nonprofits rely on their Board of Directors for governance, fiduciary oversight, social capital, financial support, community awareness and other mission-critical essentials. Yet, it’s during an unpredictable and unprecedented time such as this that a Board’s light truly shines, and the support of the STARS Board has never been more essential.
Have you considered volunteering your leadership skills in service as a nonprofit Board Director? Having first done so myself about 20 years ago, I can affirm that it was life-changing! Serving on a Board requires persistence, thoughtfulness and boundless commitment. If you would like to learn more about serving on the STARS Board of Directors, please send an email to our Board Chair.
Thank you for sustaining STARS, we need you now more than ever.
