Greetings STARS family, friends and supporters,
I hope you are in good health and making the most of things during this challenging time. Thank you all for doing your part to slow the spread of the Coronavirus in our community!
As businesses begin to re-open, it is important to note that the public health emergency remains in effect in our state, and washing hands, social distancing and wearing masks when out and about should continue to be part of our daily routine. These best practices will become new routines for STARS when programs are restarted.
We continue to plan for the eventual restart of programs; our preparations include thoroughly sanitizing facilities and transit vehicles, stocking up on personal protection equipment, as well as updating our visitor, volunteer, vendor, operating, and employment policies to safeguard the health and well-being of individuals engaging with STARS. We invite your patience and cooperation as we do our best to implement and manage these new processes.
STARS is especially grateful for the support received since suspending programs on March 24, including the generosity of vendors who have reduced or deferred costs for services, funders revising use of fund requirements related to grants, as well as donations from our valued supporters. I am happy to report that STARS recently received funding through the Payroll Protection Program. The funding, along with donations from the growing list of recurring donors who have committed their support with a recurring donation of $10 per month, are helping to maintain operations as our team prepares for a phased restart of programs.
The phased restart of programs will be dependent on a variety of factors: willing participants, program group sizes, vocational opportunities, transportation services, and healthy staff. We will, of course, be following recommendations provided by the CDC, White House and Arizona Department of Health Services to continue safeguarding the health and well-being of everyone engaging at STARS.
For questions regarding participant participation, I encourage parents and guardians to reach out to their Case Coordinator for additional information.
Stay healthy and connected,
David Henderson, President & CEO

Please Note: It’s important that each of us take precautions for safeguarding our health and the health of others. Here are some helpful steps provided by the CDC for preventing illness:
- Frequently wash hands with soap & water for at least 20 seconds
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose & mouth with unwashed hands
- Maintain a safe distance from others who may be infected
- Refrain from physical contact (e.g. handshakes, hugs) with anyone who is sick
- Cover nose & mouth when sneezing and coughing
- Stay home if you are sick and consult a physician if your illness persists
