March 4th marked an exciting milestone as STARS launched its new supplemental, interactive training program for CommunityWork participants. Designed to provide vital education and skill refinement, these sessions aim to empower participants to achieve their vocational and personal goals. The first session, held on Tuesday, March 4th, was an incredible start, filled with insight, self-reflection, and a sense of community.
The session was led by the inspiring Jackie, who introduced the group to the importance of knowing our strengths and weaknesses. Jackie began by asking, “What do you think strengths and weaknesses are?” The room was thoughtful and quiet until Christopher R. confidently shared, “Strengths are things you’re good at, like being good with dates. Weaknesses are things you need to work on.” His answer sparked a lively and interactive discussion.
When asked about her own strengths, Jenny (48) shared that she is both intelligent and considerate, qualities she takes pride in. Her current goal? “I want to wrap faster,” she said with determination. In her free time, Jenny enjoys diamond art, a hobby that highlights her creativity and focus.
Jodi (46) shared that her strengths lie in being independent, intelligent, and good with numbers. “I’d love to learn computer skills, like typing,” she said, smiling at the thought of conquering this challenge. When she’s not working, Jodi loves relaxing with a good movie—especially scary ones!
For Glen (56), the session was an opportunity to voice his aspirations. “I want to sit at a desk and help people,” he shared. Describing himself as kind, Glen’s genuine warmth was evident throughout the session. During his downtime, he enjoys watching The Dukes of Hazzard, a show that brings him joy.
The group’s artistic side also came alive when Jacob spoke about his talent for painting and drawing, while Trish proudly stated, “I like to stand up for myself,” showcasing her confidence and resilience. Meanwhile, Katie reflected on her journey of self-discovery, simply and powerfully stating, “I’m proud of myself.”
Even lighter moments brought a sense of camaraderie. Madison shared her love for spending time with her caregiver, enjoying shopping trips and dining out—simple joys that highlight the importance of connection in her life.
The session was more than just a training; it was a celebration of each participant’s unique strengths, goals, and potential. Jackie skillfully guided the group, weaving in lessons on positive thinking and building self-esteem, leaving everyone feeling encouraged and motivated.
What’s Next?
These impactful trainings will continue every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 PM to 3:45 PM after general work hours. Each session will provide participants with tools to develop their skills and build confidence, helping them move closer to their goals.
The first session was just the beginning of a journey filled with growth and opportunity. We can’t wait to see how each participant thrives in the weeks to come. 🌟
Thank you for being part of this journey as we continue to empower our STARS community!
