Legacy Sponsorships are available to individual/family donors, friends and family members of STARS participants, and current and former STARS board members.  In special honor of Las Madrinas, the founding members of STARS, ten tables will be available for sponsorship by families or individuals.

Corporate Sponsorships are also available to businesses that desire to reinvest in local communities. These sponsors will be featured on promotional materials before, at, and after the event. Corporate sponsors looking to make an impact but unable to attend or wishing to donate their seats to STARS participants may do so as part of their sponsorship package.

Celebrating 50 Years of STARS

In 1973, parents of people with disabilities imagined a place where their children could find purpose, friendship, and community. These parents – mostly mothers – formed Las Madrinas, or “the Godmothers”; an auxiliary group to raise money for the organization in Scottsdale. Led by Mary King, Las Madrinas created the organization that would later become what is now known as STARS.

In its humble beginnings, STARS operated out of borrowed space and participants made quilts, with Mrs. King volunteering her sewing machine. As the times changed, so did STARS. Its mission became more member inclusive. Programs are now operated out of two locations in Scottsdale, and have evolved to include a full array of programming, ranging from day programs to training and support designed to help participants achieve full-time inclusive employment. Today, STARS prioritizes the employment first model, helping individuals of all abilities to recognize their strengths and weaknesses, and to develop marketable skills toward employment. STARS now serves participants valley-wide.
