Remembering Diane Barringer
August 24, 1937 – July 9, 2020
Joe Bonnano, Mananger of Case Management at STARS fondly remembers Diane and shares a few highlights from her time at STARS.
* Diane began her STARS journey in the late 80's/early 90's by working in the work center as well as living in STARS’ Villa de las Madrinas. After Villa de las Madrinas closed around 2009, Diane moved in with her ADH (Adult Developmental Home) provider Genet Abera, who became like a member of the family to Diane. Diane held a strong bond with her from that time forward.
*Diane was awarded STARS’ Participant of the Year, sponsored by the Mayor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities.
* Her brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Joanne Barringer, hosted numerous birthday celebrations including Diane's 82 birthday in August 2019.
“Diane cherished her time at STARS and looked forward to attending program every day. STARS played an important role in building Diane’s self-confidence and social skills, helping her to be more at ease with others. She loved people and enjoyed accomplishing goals associated with her job at STARS.”- Jerry Barringer, Diane’s brother
