At STARS, we believe that every person deserves the chance to do work that is valued, meaningful, and respected. That belief is coming to life through our newest initiative: a Digital Production Lab, where participants will provide high-quality document scanning and digital archiving services to businesses, nonprofits, and community partners.
This is a real service created to meet a real market need. And the people delivering it are individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, proving every day that they are fully capable of fulfilling skilled, detail-oriented roles.
One of the driving forces behind this exciting new venture is Cate Holcomb. Cate brings a remarkable background in computer science, IT, and engineering—including past work as an SSD Test Engineer at Micron Technology, as well as work in digital mapping and tech support. But what makes Cate truly exceptional is the way she leads—with patience, insight, and a deep commitment to mentoring others.
As the Digital Production Lab prepares to open its services to the public, Cate will be working side-by-side with our participants to train them on digital workflows, quality assurance, and client service. She’s not just teaching technical skills—she’s opening doors. She’s making space. She’s helping participants recognize their own potential.
The lab will be available for public scanning and archiving projects soon. But more importantly, it’s already doing what it was designed to do: proving what’s possible when people with I/DD are trusted with real responsibility and given the right tools to succeed.
